Material
3/4 yard medium weight fabric
3/4 yard lining fabric
9"+ zipper
Optional: Wonder Tape
The Pocket
Use the guide to draw the opening of the pocket. I used pen so it would show up well in the picture, but you can use an erasable marking pen. Carefully cut down the middle and to the edges. Turn inside out and press. Place the zipper over the opening on the wrong side. You can use Wonder Tape or pins to hold in place. On the right side of the fabric, stitch zipper in place as close to the edge as you can.
Fold the pocket up to the edge. Sew the open pocket sides with 3/8" seam allowance. Trim off the excess zipper bits. Pocket is ready!
The Lining
Place the lining pieces right sides together. Sew the sides and bottom with 3/8" seam allowance. Press the seams open. A sleeve roll is really handy for this step. Pull the the two lining pieces apart, create the boxy corner and sew. Repeat with the other corner.
The Handles
Fold in half longwise and press. Open it up. Fold each side to the middle and press. Fold in half again and press. Stitch all around with a 1/4" seam allowance.
Use the guides to place the handles on the outer bag pieces. Secure in place with a triple stitch with 1/4" seam allowance.
Finishing the Bag
Sew the sides and bottom of outer bag pieces with 3/8" seam allowance. Press the seams open. Pull the the two fabric pieces apart, create the boxy corner and sew. Repeat with the other corner. With right sides together, place the lining inside the bag. The handles are sandwiched between the lining and bag. Make sure they are out of the way for sewing. Sew the bag and lining together all with 3/8" seam allowance, leaving an opening for your hand. Turn inside out. Press the bag. Stitch the edge with 1/4" seam allowance. Enjoy your new bag!
